Frequently Asked Questions
- How will I feel after a treatment?
- Because reflexology facilitates the release of toxins you may experience some minor discomfort such
as headache. Drinking plenty of water after a treatment should keep this kind of effect to a minimum.
In my experience most people find themselves deeply relaxed, sometimes a bit lethargic and often they
experience a very good night’s sleep.
- Should I tell my health care provider that I am having reflexology treatments?
- Reflexology is a complementary therapy; that is, it is a therapy that works hand in hand with other
therapies. If you are being treated for something specific it is always best to inform your doctor of
any complementary therapies you wish to try.
- Can reflexology have an effect on medications?
- Again, you should always inform your doctor of any complementary therapies you wish to try.
Reflexology will help to balance your body and enable it to function more effectively. Any change
in the effect of your medications that may come about through the balancing effect of reflexology
should be picked up by your doctor when assessing your medication.
- Is it safe to have reflexology during pregnancy?
- If there is no history of complications reflexology is safe and can help relieve many of the
discomforts of pregnancy.
I prefer to begin treatments after 13 weeks when the pregnancy is well established.
- Can cancer patients have reflexology?
- Yes, I can say with confidence that this is so. I had regular reflexology treatments throughout my chemo
and radiotherapy treatments for breast cancer. I found it useful in several ways:
- It helped me to relax and face my treatments in a more positive frame of mind
- My physical symptoms throughout my cancer treatments were minimal; I believe reflexology
played a part in this
- It was a relief to have an appointment I could look forward to!
- Does reflexology treat disease?
- No, reflexology does not treat specific diseases. Reflexology works to enable the body to
use its natural healing ability. Reflexology will help to rebalance the body’s energy levels
which in turn will help the body to function more effectively. Reflexology can help to relieve
some symptoms of disease.
- Are there any contraindications to having reflexology treatments?
- There are a few contraindications relating to reflexology. They include
- Current fever or infection
- DVT
- Foot infection / injury
- High risk pregnancy
